Mission
We believe everyone has That One Teacher who challenged them, opened new worlds for them, saw their passion, changed their life, or even saved their life. We believe the stories of great teachers are seldom told and often kept deep within one’s soul. Nowhere are they on display. Nowhere is there a single space to see the collective impact of teachers. We are working on doing just this:
Our Mission is to collect, preserve, archive and share the stories of great teachers so they will be remembered for all time.
By sharing our stories, teachers will know the influence they have had on the lives of their students. Schools will be able to showcase the powerful impact of their teachers. And, everyone will be inspired by the life-changing work done by teachers in every town, city and country around the world.
Founder
Sharon Collins came to education as a second career after realizing the corporate life was not for her and that she would be most fulfilled working with kids in schools. She began teaching Middle School Social Studies in the Chicago area in 1997. Then, moved on to work with gifted students PreK through High School. Currently, Sharon is the Executive Director of Westgate Community School, a K-12 school for gifted and creative students, in Thornton, Colorado. In 2018, she was honored as Colorado’s Charter School Leader of the year. In 2020, Sharon was a featured expert in the IndieFlix documentary film about Bullying, The Upstanders.
As a school leader, Sharon realized very quickly that the teachers in a school are the heart and soul of the organization. She hopes That One Teacher becomes a place of inspiration and gratitude for all the wonderful educators around the world.
